QUANDO OS MORTOS FALAM: A HISTÓRIA DA AUTÓPSIA

A indagação da causa da morte sempre esteve presente em nossos pensamentos, seja você médico ou não. A palavra autópsia significa "ver por si próprio" e vem do grego clássicoαυτοψία, sendo composta porαυτος (autós, "si mesmo") eόψις (ópsis, "visão"). Outro termo grego equivalente e de uso mais recente éνεκροψία (necropsia), composta deνεκρός (nekrós, "morto") eόψις (ópsis, "visão"), isto é, a dissecação do cadáver para determinar, por meio da observação, a causa de morte ou a natureza da doença.

As origens da autópsia (ou necrópsia) se confundem com a da própria medicina. Seus primeiros registros na antiguidade são, das dissecações com Herófilo e Erasístrato, no século II a. C. Considerado uma das principais figuras da medicina, o grego Galeno de Pérgamo (129 - 201) já recorria a esse recurso, realizando dissecações em animais como porcos, macacos, cavalos e cães, apontando as semelhanças anatômicas entre os órgãos que cumpriam a mesma função em espécies diferentes.

No Século IX, o estudo do corpo humano após a morte voltou a crescer, principalmente graças à escola de medicina de Salermo, na Itália, e à obra de Constantino, que traduziu do árabe para o latim numerosos textos médicos gregos. Logo depois. Guglielmo de Saliceto, Rolando de Parma e outros médicos medievais enfatizaram a afirmação de Galeno, segundo a qual o conhecimento anatômico era importante para o exercício da cirurgia.

Passando pelo período do Renascimento, a anatomia humana teve uma grande contribuição com artistas que buscavam nesta ciência as bases para retratarem de maneira mais precisa a figura humana. O mais famoso deles, Leonardo da Vinci, dissecou mais de trinta corpos de homens e mulheres de todas as idades. Dentre seus diversos trabalhos, ele ainda é reconhecido por seus esboços e obras baseados na arte da dissecação.

Então chegamos ao momento em que a Patologia passa a despontas como especialidade em si, separada do restante da medicina. A principal figura dessa guinada é Antonio Benivieni (1443 - 1502), médico florentino que foi o primeiro a colher sistematicamente dados de autópsias realizadas em seus pacientes. Em seguida, em 1543, o médico Andreas Vesalius lançaria o primeiro livro de anatomia humana: " De Humani Corporis Fabrica". Resultado de seus trabalhos como professor da Universidade de Pádua, onde realizou dissecações de cadáveres, a obra instituiu categoricamente o método correto de dissecação anatômica. Entre todos os nomes, porém, um dos que mais se destaca é o de Rudolf Ludwig Karl Virchow (1804 - 1878). Considerado a maior figura na história da patologia, ele foi um dos primeiros a utilizar o microscópio, um dos principais avanços da óptica em seu tempo, para analisar tecidos.

Durante todo esse processo histórico, sistematizações e padronizações foram constantes e necessárias para tornar possível a evolução dos procedimentos da autópsia. De um princípio baseado na dissecação de órgãos, essa ciência passou para um método avançado de estudo que investiga a causa da morte de um paciente, permitindo desenvolver o conhecimento geral sobre a doença que o acometeu.

27. During these ancient rites a temporary dissolution of the social obligations and hierarchies took
28. place in favor of chaos, jokes and even debauchery. From a historical and religious point of
29. view Carnival represented, therefore, a period of renewal, when chaos replaced the established
30. order, but once festive period was over, a new or the old order re-emerged for another cycle
31. until the next carnival.
32. In Babylon, shortly after the vernal equinox the process of the foundation of the cosmos
33. was re-enacted, described with the myth of the struggle of Marduk, the savior-god with Tiamat
34. the dragon, which ended with the victory of the former. During these ceremonies a procession
35. was held in which the forces of chaos were allegorically represented fighting the recreation of
36. the universe, that is the myth of the death and resurrection of Marduk, the savior. In the parade
